(February 25, 2008) Doug Geinzer is a saint. The CEO of Recruiting Nevada has enthusiastically given his time, rolodex and attention to building the momentum for the Las Vegas Recruiting Roadshow™ (Wednesday the 27th, register here). We’re really lucky to have him as the local coordinator in Las Vegas.

As I head out the door, I’m prepared for a week’s worth of meetings, entertainment and continuing education. Hopefully, I’ll see you at the Roadshow on Wednesday or the RecruitingBlogs.com party on Thursday night.

Richard Becker Joins Us In Vegas

(February 06, 2008) John Sumser recently asked me to join the speakers at Las Vegas Recruiting Roadshow and I was happy to accept. I am sure it will be fun, and a great opportunity to meet some recruiters face-to-face.

Besides, it fits in nicely with one of the tips I always tell my students: always expand your knowledge and networks well beyond any confined industry ecosystem. Spend too much time within any ecosystem and specialists risk becoming endangered species. Online or off, there is no difference.

This concept is one of the reasons while I place value on creating relationships with public relations practitioners, advertising gurus, communication specialists, etc., I also work build connections and participate outside of my area of focus. Las Vegas Recruiting Roadshow

(January 28, 2008) I had breakfast with Susan Burns on Friday. (Notice that the link is to Dave Mendoza’s blog. He’s doing some amazing work.) One of the things that I noticed over eggs (besides Hollandaise) was the importance of hearing other people talk about your business.

There’s just no way that an individual (or a team) can overcome the limits on their perspective. It takes outsiders to tell you the obvious (as the nose on your face) truth.

Susan said, “Oh, I get it. The Roadshows are a way for vendors to give back to the Recruiting Community.” Of course she’s right. And, of course I couldn’t see it that way because it was right in front of me. I needed Susan’s help to articulate the obvious.
